Today was an early day, Sherri and I were up bright and early at 5 to load the final things into the car (mainly the luggage on the roof and the children) and we tried to quickly and quietly slip the kids out of bed and into the car so they would fall back asleep. It didn't work. Both of the kids woke up immediately and refused to go back to sleep.
But, they were great, we made some great time and the kids didn't mind at all. Our 1st days was one of the big driving days, about 8 hours from home to Chicago (just outside of Chicago really). We made it there before dark none the worse for wear, unfortunately, we arrived during a huge torrential thunderstorm.
It had been raining off and on throughout the day, but it really came down once we got into Chicago. Even in the rain Chicago is a beautiful city, the buildings, the skyline, the history, we told ourselves we would have to come back to see Chicago exclusively within minutes of getting there. By the time we reached our hotel the rain was beginning to let up just in time for us to unpack. One thing we weren't prepared for was the fact that Connor chose this exact day to learn how to open doors. So we had to deadbolt the door inbetween trips to get the luggage.
Not much happened, we made it to Chicago and the drive was surprisingly easy!
The sightseeing is for tomorrow.
